The Mechanical Testing Laboratories (MTLs) is housed in the Research Center for Science and Technology at Clark Atlanta University. In the Mechanics of Polymer Matrix Composites Laboratory (PMC Lab), experimental and analytical studies can be conducted to explore the viscoelastic constitutive relationship between elevated temperature exposure and the change in mechanical properties that will lead to improved high-performance, high temperature structural polymer matrix composite materials. In the Time Dependent Materials Laboratory (TDM Lab), experimental, analytical and numerical investigations can be conducted to improve the fundamental understanding of and develop predictive models for the appreciable time-dependent and nonlinear mechanical behavior exhibited by polymers and polymeric composites. In the Mechanical Behavior and Property Characterization Laboratory (MeBProC Lab), experimental studies using tensile, compression, torsion, three- and four-point bending, and shear tests are aimed at understanding and predicting the mechanical properties believed to influence stress-strain curves, ultimate strength, modulus, fatigue life, fracture, and failure modes of advanced materials.
